  •  Really? So your local doctor is a traitor? (4+ / 0-)

Many, many doctors earn more than $350,000 a year.  See also here.

And since that 1% cutoff is for household income (two incomes), then a middle aged dentist married to a middle-aged CPA may well be traitors, too.

I think you need to be a little more discriminating than just an income level when you throw around the word "treason."

clearly there are wealthy people who aren't Verminiferous Scum Who Need to be Neutralized...

Basically, while I appreciate the sentiment here, I don't like eliminationist language about anyone.

(seems like you were more concerned about who's on what position in the Food Chain...I'm surprised you didn't have an objection to the whole premise of the diary)

    •  The diarist apparently doesn't even realize ... (4+ / 0-)

that a good percentage of "the rich" are Democrats, like Hollywood producers, directors and actors, plus there are quite a few rich folks among rappers and sports stars ... and Democratic politicians.

    •  It's the inequality (0+ / 0-)

Worldwide doctors make an average of 3 times what their patients make.

In the U.S. doctors make an average of 5 times what their patients make.

(Looking for a reference.  I saw this some time ago during a discussion about income inequality and need to re-find it.  Will post when I find it.)

    •  Nobody who "works" for a living is really rich (4+ / 0-)

Rich means that you live off of the return on your investments. And it is in the pursuit of the safety of those investments that drives the politics to protect the investments, much to the woe of the rest of us.

I am not worried about a guy making $3000/month who has to work for it. I am very worried about a guy who sits on his ass and has his investments earn him $3,000/minute. Because the latter guy will do whatever it takes to insure his cash flow and he has greater means to do so over the former guy, or me, or you.

In the end, public financing of elections is the only road-block to complete capture of the electoral process by the rich, which is why it is so aggressively fought by the rich.

      •  Then you are not talking about the 1%. (0+ / 0-)

because the 1% begins at about $350,000 in household income as those links showed.

You're talking about the .001%.  (and some of those are Democrats, of course.  Isn't Oprah one of the richest people in the country?)

        •  Its only the 0.001% who truly make policies (0+ / 0-)

          .
