    Convert a phone call to text, save it, and that file is much less than the MP3 file.

      and now do it in any language on the planet. English is as good as it gets and Google voice is one of the best, try out the service, you wouldn't send anyone to war based on it.

      If you go to the trouble to collect someone, you'll keep the native format, the analysts and linguists then get to work on the "best" quality product as the starting point.  If you attempt voice-to-text you keep BOTH, hoping that the gisting of the voice-to-text and post processing is enough to get you intercepts of interest.
