  •  In some ways there was hostile takeover of company (15+ / 0-)

The folding of the party structure Dean built into OFA clearly had such elements.   Choosing Rahmbo as COS while the confetti in Grant Park was being picked up and then effectively telling Dean to get lost offered further evidence.  So much for that "team of rivals" concept.

The party reform movement of which we were so fond in 2005-08 was strangled in its infancy.  We can argue over how, when, and by whom the strangling occurred, but there is no doubt that it did occur.   The very idea of party reform is as dead as the concept of a small donors  funding a successful insurgent presidential campaign.

Yes, we have a Warren here and a Markey there, but they're not anywhere close to the center of the party.  The current DNC chair wouldn't even support 3 SoFla House challengers in '08 b/c she was friendly w/ the GOP incumbents.  The 2016 front-runner proudly served as the candidate of FIRE and of party insiders in '08, and there's little doubt as to her future intentions.

As disappointing as the record on policy issues has been, the record on party "reform" has, if anything, been even more disappointing.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?
