  •  Clinton had tons of name recognition in 1992. (9+ / 0-)

    Everyone knew who he was.

Pretending Center-Right policies are Progressive is dishonest bullshit.

    Dishonest bullshit turns off voters.

That was pretty clear in 2010 to anyone paying the least bit attention.

    •  The dishonesty was claiming that everything (0+ / 0-)

Obama did was a failure or was in some way poisoned. It was a continuous stream of negativity from both the Far Left and the Right and it drove down the center of the electorate, Th independents, the shallows that listen to Lefty pundits and Left media. These were people that had voted for Obama in 08 and had then been propagandized that their vote had been misplaced. And where did they get that notion? From articles like this diary that besmirch everything he'd done because it wasn't pure enough.
I did phone banking in 2010 and got an earful from these people, quoting articles they'd read in FDL and the Nation and several other sites, they'd been fed a diet of pure ObamaFAIL for months and had decided to sit it out to "teach the Democrats a lesson". Unfortunately they didn't learn any lessons themselves.

      •  That's just hyperbole. (10+ / 0-)

I phone banked here in the Northeast, most of the Independents I spoke to didn't mention FDL, The Nation or DK.

They didn't come out to vote for Democrats because they were so disappointed with the mediocre agenda that was passed off as being progressive.  Sorry, but the PPACA is straight out of the Heritage Foundation and written by the insurance industry that was negotiated behind closed doors with Big Pharma and the hospital industry, along with the insurance companies,  to protect their interests. Not to mention the continuation of the worst of the previous administrations foreign and national security policies. That's just part of what turned off Independents. The president and the Democratic congress dropped the ball. Trying to blame the few of us who warned this would happen is just ignoring the Democrats' complicity and the facts. But, hey, it's all us "leftie purists" fault.

There is no "lefty" media, not even MSNBC.

          •  I've been in Egypt (7+ / 0-)

            the Nile isn't this muddy.

What I find amusing about your argument is your absolute refusal to admit that if Obama & the Congressional Democrats had  at least done what they promised about FICA & The Patriot Act, pushed at little harder for a public option in the PPACA & stopped offering up the Social safety net as a negotiating point, we might not be having this discussion.

I'm not the one up to my neck  in that muddy river, honey. Obama & the Democrats did this all by themselves with no help from me or my "leftie purist" friends

... before the Aswan dam was built, especially during the flood season.

The Aswan Low dam was built by the British, 1898-1902, and the Aswan High Dam by the Egyptians and Russians, 1960-1976.

So the comment is only 37yrs to 111yrs out of date, depending on how muddy is muddy.

          •  It's damn hard to believe you phone banked. (0+ / 0-)

            I did.

And all I heard was "Where are the fucking jobs?!?!".

Now, I wish I could claim that people were pissed were weren't out of Iraq on anything like the schedule Obama promised, or that they were mad about the abuses revealed in Cablegate, or that they were pissed our Special Forces were gunning down civilians in night raids, or that they were mad Obama was keeping 86 men cleared for release locked up at GITMO in conditions so horrible half of them were on hunger strike.

I wish they cared that the President had broken his word and hid torture photos from international human rights groups.

But America isn't over here on the Left with me or on the Center Right with you.  America is a slightly right of center nation if we go by what voters actually believe, and the Democratic Party likely voters as a body are solidly Center Left.

What they wanted was Medicare co-pays and deductibles going down, not up.  What they wanted was help with tuition.

            What they wanted was jobs.

And that's why they didn't vote.

      •  Good for them (9+ / 0-)

How ass backwards to blame the Nation FDL or GG for losing 2010. It was the Democrat's that were elected in 2006 and 08 who blew off their majority by not doing what they were elected to do. gives me hope that people had enough sense to know a bamboozle when it bit them and it did. Besides which the Kabuki was not at all convincing. Blaming the liberal outlets who actually talk about what going on is pretty weird and undemocratic to boot. Not pragmatic just cart before the horse politics consisting of misinformation, lies and fear. It worked in 2012 as nobody wanted the worse evil in power. Still they sure seem to be controlling the agenda and as Obama said not much difference between their 'way forward'.

      •  heh (0+ / 0-)

I am an independent who voted for Obama in 08 and after I was called retarded....well I did vote but no money and no time was donated in 2010.  So yes I'm to blame.  Or you could go with the numbers.  The ones that say young voters.stayed home because Obama underwhelmed them.  Older voters.get turned off and still vote.  Young people stay home when they're disillusioned.

Bad things aren't bad! And anyway, there's mitigation!

      •  That's it. The completely powerless "Far Left" (0+ / 0-)

that doesn't matter at all and whose views ought to be ignored because they represent only a tiny fringe is also so powerful that they convinced millions of voters to stay home by saying that the APACA was way too corporate friendly.

It wasn't Axlerod on their TV with a pair of keys babbling nonsense about some car being out a ditch while their brothers family was living in their basement and everyone at work was getting laid off, two years into what was supposed to some hugely transformative Presidency.
