… here and elsewhere made fun of them and didn't see any need to close ranks behind them in solidarity.

    •  The difference is that Code Pink goes in to (4+ / 0-)

galleries with the full intention of being disruptive to the proceedings, whereas this demonstration was spontaneous.

The reason Code Pink doesn't get a lot of support here and elsewhere is because some of the politicians they target for this rude disruption are politicians who for the most part are on our side. It's called public whining, and it's not attractive. What was done to Michele Obama, for instance, was like heckling LBJ for not doing enough for the voting rights of minorities. Rude, and targeting the wrong people.

That's why I roll MY eyes. I don't know about anyone else.

Disruption without purpose, disruption just to disrupt, is counterproductive.

Purposeful, mindful disruption, on the other hand, can and does move mountains.

… methods that get used against Code Pink can and will be used against spontaneous actions.

Godwin via Niemöller: "First they came to eject Code Pink, but I did not protest because I thought Code Pink was foolish and whiny. Then they came to eject . . . When they came to eject me, there was no one left to protest . . . " and so on.

I think we need to get very, very intentional. Occupy Wall Street was very, very intentional though if you didn't understand them, they looked disorganized, but they were far from it.

We need to pack galleries and protest in capitol rotundas. But we also need to be both intentional and spontaneous and protest in ways which get the message across. Just getting arrested doesn't mean you were effective.
