  •  The owner of that white terrier is feeling pretty (5+ / 0-)

foolish about now.  That was a close one, and it's hard to say who would have gotten the worst of it.  I know I wouldn't want to be plowed into by the Tour peloton in the last 5k of a stage.  They were probably moving about 30-35 mph.

    •  The dog would have been killed, at the very least (5+ / 0-)

And a bunch of riders would have been injured, some so badly that they would have had to leave the tour. Plus tens of thousands in damage to the bikes. It may have looked "cute" to casual viewers, but this was a really, really, really close call. I'm a totally amateur recreational cyclist and if I really push it I can just hit 30mph for short stretches, and for a bike, that's fast, and dangerous.

Thankfully, like yesterday's bus meets banner incident, no one got hurt and the tour went on unaffected (although a bunch of riders got hosed in the stage and standings because of the bus incident, which was total amateur hour). I can't believe that Corsica has never had a tour stage before. It's gorgeous and great cycling country. Tourism will likely boom as a result.
