    My impression is that a significant majority of U.S. citizens believes that U.S. citizens are special and the rest of the world is second-class or lower.

    One runs into hundreds of examples of that every single day.

      Yes, we have been taught that we are a city on a hill, but this views comes directly from the elites. Nevertheless, as Pluto has argued before on this site, at this point it is out of our hands, and instead of pretending that the rest of the world doesn't matter we should start bracing for the blowback that will ensue and perhaps do something to mitigate it.

      I think it is an overwhelming majority of US citizens who believe that that the United States and its citizens are special, including nearly all elected public officials.
