I wish everyone would stop and think about this. They're so lost in whether Snowden is good or bad, whether he's going to get caught or go free, whether he has something important or not-- all of which propositions are currently unknown-- that they ignore what is going on before their eyes.

Snowden's reported application for political asylum in Russia suggests that he's going to defect, that the US strategy of demonization has just blown up in the faces of those who engaged in it.

    •  He's applied to 15 countries. (2+ / 0-)

I guess he's going to divide himself up into pieces.  I thought Kossacks actually read beyond the headlines.

Snowden has a choice whether to give information to Russia.  He has been there for a week now.  If they wanted what was on those laptops (likely yes, even if it is not new information to them), they have already taken them.  He has no choice in the matter.

The U.S. government is assuming China and Russia have seen all the information in Snowden's possession.  They therefore aren't worried about pushing him into their arms; the damage has already been doen.
