voting machines that tabulate OUR votes that in most places in the country are NOT auditable.

    How convenient.

But, hush!  That's a big secret!

whenever they think they need to, the 'trick' there being that they very seldom need to. Because for elections beyond City or County Council, there is no such thing as a candidate for either of the sanctioned political parties who could ever in a million years change anything about the way the 'system' operates.

This is one glaring underlining truth that a great many people seem to have missed of late. I attribute that to relative youth and newbie status to the 'system', but only because it helps me sleep at night.

I am quite astounded, however, by the the self-defeating blindness of some relative newbies to be arithmetically competant enough to ad 2+2 and come up with 4. There is of course a reason why the hopeful and forward-looking rhetoric of candidate Obama doesn't match in any way his actual performance as POTUS. Hell, the last time we elected a POTUS who somehow managed to turn on 'The Establishment' while in office (believed naively that he had enough power to do so), he got very publicly murdered in Dallas. I promise that's a lesson not lost on any of today's politicians, either party.

Bottom line is that they don't HAVE to fix elections very often, or in more than a couple of states when they do. That eliminates potential problems with the vote-rigging technology that people might find out about if some journalist somewhere were to dig deep enough. This happy situation of only having to rig a state or two (as opposed to many or all) allows some minimal citizen-oriented internal politics to occasionally occur whenever We the People get pissed off enough to present a roadblock to 'The Establishment' business as usual. Preferred figurehead to be government/deficit expander full-steam-ahead Repuglican, but let an occasional Wolf-in-Dem-clothing hold the top fundraiser spot if the natives get restless.

Bread and circuses work pretty well too, and if required they can always deploy the Kardashians, or even a Missing White Woman to keep people distracted...

and that's how sensible election reform gets tin-foiled.  I'd just leave it at let's count our votes with the lights on, which is verifiable elections.
