  •  I wasn't asking whether it would be legal (0+ / 0-)

to argue that - I was asking whether it would be a rational argument to say such a thing.  Is it rational to argue that someone who shoots you in the heart is only guilty of assaulting the 1-cm x 1-ft hole the bullet creates in your body rather than trying to kill you?  That's basically what it amounts to to claim that they weren't going after the 15th Amendment or the baseline of VRA by attacking preclearance.

    •  preclearence is not part of the 15th (0+ / 0-)

amendment. it's part of the VRA.

They did not overturn the 15th amendment. If they did, please cite me the page and line where they did so?

it's a terrible thing it's mostly muted now (section 3 counties--a painfully tiny set although it includes Los Angeles-- and two states still have to be precleared for now) impeaching the "five" won't bring it back. I rather wonder how many times people have to tell you most of the United States was not subject to the section that was just struck down? if they hadn't and most here wish they hadn't --the next real opportunity to expand it nationwide would probably be when it'd get reauthorized again---in 2032

Anyway, I went and did some homework. the very few federal judges who have been successfully impeached? their rulings still stand.
