    To begin with, the rightwing revolution cut off that possibility at the knees in the early 1970's. 40-45% of the people think 40-45% of the other people are their enemies and support ownership in the fight against them.

    That's not changing very much.

    Total surveillance is about spotting nascent troublesome ideas or movements and nipping them in the bud. I think it's more about looking for the kinds of patterns that eventually lead to a consensus for change in plenty of time to make sure one way or another they don't put together the circumstances to reach any kind of critical mass.

      I've seen a lot of diaries lately with a lot of encouraging data concerning demographic shifts in the U.S. Fairly massive shifts. From here in the middle of things it seems glacially slow, but things are changing.
