found a strong organized coalition that brought 5000 people out on a Monday, midday, Texas July heat included.  They were there Despite threats of violence from Republicans offended by being shown in their full, stupid misogyny.
Battleground Texas is training people to register voters, and to emulate OFA's GOTV strategies.  I swear, if all I ever read was the gloom and doomers on this site I'd join the loony survivalists.  Thanks for pointing out some positives!

Let's say the doom and gloomers are all wrong, let's say by some amazing dint of miracle, some astounding, earth shattering, once in a lifetime political upset, Wendy somehow manages to actually win. Then what.

She'll be governor of ... Texas. She wouldn't even be able to roll back the law she filibustered. She'd have to work with the Republicans in the legislature to get anything done, and supposedly the position of governor is not very strong in Texas anyway. The place ain't going to be a testing ground for single payer health care or any other progressive ideas any time soon. It's simply not the right place to be looking for our champion.

Just look at Kirsten Gillibrand. We've seen that she's as progressive as they come in terms of her real beliefs (now that she's politically secure, she continues to advocate for progressive bills), but when she was a congresswoman we all thought she was a Blue Dog. In retrospect, those weren't her real positions as much as the positions of her constituency. Our champion's most likely going to come from a place where a progressive is free to be... progressive.

      •  So I guess... (3+ / 0-)

you want all Texas progressives to continue to fund races outside of our state.  One of the biggest problems since Ann Richards here is that no outside money comes into the state to support Democratic candidates.

From your logic we shouldn't even try down here.

What if the Governor of Texas was telling Texans the Legislature was refusing health care for 350,000 citizens because of partisan politics?  What if she vetoed everything and forced re-passage of every ALEC law?  What if she explained the War of Northern Aggression is fucking over, you lost, slavery's never coming back so it's time to ask job creators to pay their employees a living wage?  What if she produced a list of crumbling bridges and overpasses to avoid if you want to live?  What if she posted Texas' ranking in quality of life metrics on billboards all over Texas?  What if she posted gun death statistics, how much gun love costs Texans in medical care, long term care, legal wrangling?

No, much better to give up so we can get another Republican in the White House and give the gloom and doomers really good reasons to wail and gnash their teeth.  Nothing is harder on Apocalypse prophets than success and progress.  They even manage to turn success into failure, but fewer and fewer people give a shit.
