"Imagine," the BBC exclaimed last month [...] "a global spying network that can eavesdrop on every single phone call, fax, or E-mail, anywhere on the planet. It sounds like science fiction, but it's true."
You present this as if to demonstrate that the Snowden leak showed us nothing new. But all it says is that the NSA can eavesdrop on any phone call, etc., not that it does collect data on every single one.

It's like police have started raiding random homes all the time without a warrant, and you're telling us it's no big deal because the police have always been able to raid any home. In fact, the part about needing a warrant is a massively important detail.

      •  the details you keep ommitting are key (5+ / 0-)

        1) FISA warrants authorized by Congress
        2) Only meta-data
        3) Supreme Court in 1979 decided that meta-data is not protected
        4) Al Franken says program is monitored by Congress and not spying on Americans

Other than that, I do admit I did not spell out that the improvements in technology Hersh discusses appear to have, in fact, take place at least to some degree. I thought most people would not be surprised that NSA is not using 1999 vintage technology now.

    •  No (0+ / 0-)

you would just deny it and then obfuscate your denial.

It's not like this is original, or even a very good example of the genre.

But, why are you so late to the game? Did it take you awhile to memorize all the talking points?
