My partner and I discussed several times over the four days we spent going door to door in working class neighborhoods how people were supportive of the President but not of Sherrod Brown.  We talked to everyone who was negative and the gist of what we got was that Brown really made people angry on a state level.  He seemed more interested in national limelight than in worrying about what was going on in Ohio.  Many union people were particularly disgruntled and talking with them they were very well informed.  We were not prepared for the negative feelings and since we had not received much background info on how to speak to these concerns all we could say was that we needed to keep our majority in the Senate to advance what we cared about.

I also recommend reading the book "The New New Deal".  It might mean something to you.
