since the victory of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain's 20th Maine prevented the Confederate outflanking at Gettysburg that might have had all of us now saluting the Stars and Bars

Thirty years later, Chamberlain received a Medal of Honor for his conduct in the defense of Little Round Top. The citation read that it was awarded for "daring heroism and great tenacity in holding his position on the Little Round Top against repeated assaults, and carrying the advance position on the Great Round Top."

There are a lot of important actions on the second day lead to the Union victory.

Because of Killer Angels, very little is said of the Union defense of Culp's Hill.  It was a very strong position but it was attacked by twice the number of defenders.

[Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security] do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great.
