  •  and yet they still live to fight another day. (0+ / 0-)

They may have lost the official war, and gotten "generous terms" from Grant, but in their own minds they have never surrendered and they are showing us now, by the stringent laws they are passing, what life in the Confederacy would have been for all of us.
They are showing us now that no terms will ever be accepted by them. No one except white southern man will ever have the vote or the power in those States.
As long as those 5 white men on the Supreme Court remain in power, the south will rise again and again.

    •  Um, Clarence Thomas is black. (0+ / 0-)

He may be an aider and abettor to the White Conservatives on the USSC, but he's not one of them and they may very well see him as a foolish tool for pressing and preserving their advantage.  His vote is so reliable I'm honestly not sure he would support anti-slavery measures today, seeing as how that wasn't part of the original Constitution.

    •  I agree with some of what you say, but (0+ / 0-)

the complete hyperbole of it all just undermines your point. I lived in the South for 31 years and in all that time, I never lived in a town or city that didn't have a black mayor at some point and a consistent majority black local government.
