  •  I assume you want our take on (14+ / 0-)

the part of abolish...Hmmmm.  this old one does not seem to be  working too well.

I am not into the 4th anymore at all.

I sound cynical but a bunch of drunks wandering around
liqured up setting on bombs bursting in air reminds me of
how far down the rabbit hole the MIC has gone  and kids like the fires in the sky but hate the noise and vets and pets just aren't happy this time of year.

I quit doing the 4th.   I think I absolutely quit last year.
As far as this time of year.. Ask any vet how they feel.

...I believe all the young vets out there (relatively speaking) are really disillusioned.

I had a long talk at NN13 with a women who is married to a career military husband. They've been moved around a lot, of course. They just got a new gig being part of the military at the Ambassador's place in a foreign country (I'm not allowed to say more as I promised this woman I would not reveal it).

I asked her about what its like to be progressive and in the military. She told  me things have changed a LOT since Iraq and Afghanistan. There are many in the military who have moved away from the GOP. It is mostly the younger ones, according to her.

She says progressives in the military must still remain "underground" because the prevailing vibe is still pro-hawk GOP among the top ranks and older ones...but progressives can now actually talk among themselves...and in the "open" as it were (like at gatherings and meals and the like) without it being a problem.

In other words, there is a split within the ranks of career military folks after Bush and Iraq...

Ignorance is bliss only for the ignorant. The rest of us must suffer the consequences.

      I agree totally Vetwife!

Who ever decided it was patriotic to LIE us into wars, kill and mangle multi thousands, and then celebrate it?  I'm with the pets and many vets. They know.

Please watch today's "Democracy Now."  To me, this is real patriotism, the true honoring of the vow " protect and defend the Constitution...:
