  •  Oh how things stay the same. Remember when (6+ / 0-)

Bill Casey was head of CIA for Reagan, and was supposed to give some follow up testimony on Iran Contra that he otherwise couldn't have gotten out of, and couldn't have sailed through without critical damage to that administration, and conveniently "died" right in the knick of time?

What mystery paradise island did he live the remainder of his life on?

Is that the fate that Clapper is angeling for, or at least resigned to now?

When all of those really, really top quality spy novels were just starting it was called "biting the bullet", but i can't help but wonder if we have now arrived at a point in time where it's accepted by those at that rareified level as "the second best possible retirement option".

wasn't Bill Casey about to spill the beans?

Clapper seems to be more like he's cut from the clothe of

      Heckuva-job Brownie!

      •  Uh, no! I could see the Casey "exit strategy" (2+ / 0-)

coming from several years down the road, and no part of it ever even contemplated "doing damage". Look carefully at the "Reagan/Bush BUSHCO Co-operative". It was so carefully constructed that they had at least three levels of dependable fallbacks on line for every single important "national security" appointed position.

I mean, they had such a deep bench that they were pretty well able to cover all of the same types of positions under "Cheney/Bush" for the entire 2001-2009 time period, a good thirty years after Ronnie and Bush, Senior made their pact with the devil on behalf of big oil and "The Military Industrial Complex".
