    So you're saying the Texas Rangers, not the baseball team, should have taken over the Texas state government?

      The only standing army at the time of the American Revolution was the British one. If the colonists had had one, it would have had to choose a side. That's the situation in Egypt. The military has only four real options: execute the will of the people, allow itself to be used by the state against the people, stand aside entirely or go totally rogue. The second would be a crime, the third is implausible, and the fourth would be a nightmare.
