    Read the Declaration of Independence to answer your question.

    Jefferson & Co. knew that because of what they'd done, declared rebellion and war, that the British would hang them if they were caught.

    Snowden does not claim to be overthrowing the government but vindicating the values of the Constitution, and by extension the legal system.

    They are completely inapplicable as analogies.

    If Snowden declares that it is his goal to overthrow the US government rather than reform it, then he is justified in staying away and even making common cause with foreign powers.

    But if he did that I doubt he would be a darling of DK.
