I have never seen a single Saw movie. I have read de Sade: Justine and a few others. I've had an undergraduate course in Ovid, although my real appreciation came much later in life, after I'd pretty much screwed over someone that mattered.

What I read as your primary point:

Meanwhile, I remain unmoved: Just because person A writes erotica, doesn't mean I have to admire person A for it. And if it's bad erotica -- and it almost certainly is, since most erotica is laughably lame, being written by people with no particular talent for language -- then I'm not going to apologize for laughing at person A for it. And if it's odious erotica, premised on behavior or on relationship structures that in any non-privileged genre of fiction would be considered beyond the pale, I'm not giving it a pass just because somewhere in America someone is fantasizing about it, or even submitting to it.

If I don't like your sex life, you're laughable
    and I utterly reject that.

      fallacious nonsense.

To put the torture behind us is, inevitably, to put it in front of us.

        And if it's odious erotica
isn't a  judgement on others sex lives.

It wouldn't be the first time I was brought up short on this website.
