You may think your diary is just a light bit of snark, but you are serving the agenda of those who want the spotlight shined anywhere except upon the NSA and its tens of thousands of private contractors who have been given access to all our digital data.

From the beginning, the defenders and excusers have bent over backwards to make the story all about Snowden's pole dancing girlfriend and Snowden's GED and Snowden's choice to seek temporary safe haven in communist (?) Hong Kong and Snowden's cowardly refusal to subject himself to the kind of reprehensible treatment that's become de rigueur for accused violators of the Espionage Act.

No effort has been spared to deflect this community's attention from Snowden's factual revelations. And when those of us who actually want to focus on the substance of the issues take the bait and respond that Snowden is actually heroic for having voluntarily subjected himself to tremendous personal risk in order to spark this much needed and too long delayed national conversation, WE are accused of making it all about Snowden (or at least as much as the defenders and excusers of our national security state run amok).

So, fuck it. Fuck this false equivalency bullshit. You're tired of Snowden diaries? Then don't align yourself with those whose mission has been to make this all about Snowden.

You really have not the least idea who I align with.  Check my history rather than mind reading...it's more effective.

this particular diary served no good purpose. While some may have gotten a chuckle, it (inadvertently?) supports the false meme that both sides are obsessed with Snowden the man, to the exclusion of a deep discussion of the issues he's raised.

You may not be, and good for you...but have you actually been reading the diaries lately?

and new assignments have been nonexistent for the past three weeks. (Yay! WisePiper vaycay!) So, yes, I've read virtually every diary posted on the subject since the first Guardian/Greenwald reports.

I stand by my parent comment observations. From the beginning there has been a tremendous and unseemly focus on and demonization of Snowden the man, in a transparent effort to deflect the more important conversation.

Given that, there certainly and undeniably has been pushback against the ignorant and hyperbolic accusations of "coward" and "traitor" and "just in it for himself" (WTseriousF!), but the false equivalence has been, and clearly continues to be, that both sides WANT this conversation to be about Snowden.

For you to not see, or refuse to acknowledge, that A preceded B, is disingenuous at best.

You sincerely want everyone to stop talking about Snowden? How about joining the effort to inform your fellow citizens that the NSA has given hundreds of profit motivated private companies and their tens of thousands of employees Top Secret access to all of your digital data, with no practical oversight nor safeguards against these individuals divulging this data to whomever may make use of it.

in the real world. No one is thinking about him at ALL. That's why, given that we are in overdrive political activity out here on the ground, this place feels like a hermetic little world obsessed with something no one else cares about.

Both the Snowden-Hero and the Snowden-Fink "sides" have penned Snowden diaries, have gone into Snowden diaries to comment profusely, recced up Snowden diaries, and altogether have done The snowden Thing.

Because there are a lot greater hijackings of our Constitutional rights going on right now than whether the damned NSA has a recording of my best friend sobbing on the phone about the way her husband acted last weekend. I literally don't give a shit, in light of the fact that our voting rights are being taken away and women are being enslaved.

these threads to know that YOU know this is NOT about Snowden. And it's not about the NSA itself having a recording of your best friend sobbing about her husband.

You are an intelligent person. You know by now, having read so many of these diaries, that the NSA has handed out TS clearances to tens of thousands of private individuals who have access to all your digital data. There is no effective oversight or means of stopping these individuals from selling your most embarrassing, incriminating data to any person or entity who might wish to pressure you or pressure your elected representative.

I applaud your activism on behalf of voting rights and women's rights, but you are exclusively focused on the trees, while the fucking forest blazes around you. And those disenfranchised minority voters and enslaved women are in just as much danger of being consumed by these fires as the rest of us.

The next time you're counting on your rep to cast a critical vote in support of an issue you care deeply about, you'd better fucking pray he hasn't been threatened with the release of information that may destroy his life.

(Of course, if you ONLY support and rely upon reps who've never committed a marital indiscretion and never experimented with drugs in college and never done anything, at any time, that would prove the least bit embarrassing, you've got nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, most of us are represented by actual human beings.)

In the words of the VP who's pressuring our friends and allies not to grant safe haven to him who must not be named, this IS a big fucking deal. 'Bout time you recognized that.
