trying to bully government into ANYTHING relating to other people's sex/reproductive lives is beyond "silliness." It's a real issue for me, especially in light of what's happened in Ohio this past week.

I've never seen a group as sex-obsessed as the mandatory celibate (presumably) hierarchy of this church. I think we can see why mandatory (presumable) celibacy is a bad idea.

like going to a Catholic priest for marriage counseling is like taking your car to a mechanic who's never driven a car. You might have the book knowledge about how things are supposed to work but that pales beside someone who has direct experience of how things don't always go "by the book".

We had our pre-marital counseling with the young deacon of our Episcopal parish -- he was younger than Mr. Scribe and I by several years (he was actually still in seminary -- he was authorized to perform the ceremony but not do a Eucharist so we still had the rector of the parish handle that part), but he did a really nice job; he also got off easy because since we were older, we already had a general idea of how to handle many of the key issues.

It's not just the mandatory celibacy, but also the male domination of the Catholic Church that's an issue; being in a church with female priests and bishops serving alongside men has made a big difference in my own spiritual life.
