permission to the President's plane, they denied permission to A plane, until they found out it was the President's plane. Still don't see the outrage.

Expressing regrets about a mixup is not apologizing for doing anything wrong. See, an incident that causes inconvenience by another country does not equal an international incident, or a declaration of war by any country, as some here have claimed.

I'd like to start a new meme: "No means no" is a misnomer. It should be "Only 'Yes' means yes." Just because someone doesn't say "No" doesn't mean they've given consent. If she didn't say "Yes", there is no consent.

    •  That's their story and they're sticking to it (9+ / 0-)

even though anyone with access to flightradar24.com would clearly have seen the plane tagged with "FAB01", and would have KNOWN that it was the official Bolivian presidential plane.

"Saving face" diplomatically often means telling polite lies that everyone else is expected to politely pretend to believe.

      If it's

      Then it's
      Not your choice
      And it's
      None of your damn business!

if you don't want to smell like a sock or worse.

You've been around long enough - or so you claim - to realize that someone doesn't reach NR status without being very, very obnoxious.

If that is not what you want to encourage, don't encourage them.

sock puppet, no matter that you would like it so. There are people on this earth who do not agree with you. Deal with it.

No matter. Until you made the comment, I hadn't noticed you before and had no idea who you were. We'll go back to that. Sound good?

    •  Flight controllers know all plane's call signs (16+ / 0-)

and therefore know who they represent.  FAB-001 is the ID for the Bolivian President's plane. Unlikely this mistook that for someone else.

You don't have to believe anyone here that this is an international incident. Just read the news.

Latin America Fumes Over Boliva Incident

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Latin American leaders slammed European governments on Wednesday for diverting Bolivian President Evo Morales' plane on rumors it was carrying a wanted former U.S. spy agency contractor, adding a new diplomatic twist to the Edward Snowden saga.
      ...
"(These are) vestiges of a colonialism that we thought were long over. We believe this constitutes not only the humiliation of a sister nation but of all South America," Argentine President Cristina Kirchner said in a speech in Buenos Aires.

Heads of state in the 12-nation South American bloc UNASUR denounced the "unfriendly and unjustifiable acts."

I guess the heads of state of South America would be the best people to consult on whether this was an international incident. Certainly, they are more authoritative than any commenters on DailyKOS.

      Snowden Suspicion Grounds Bolivian Plane

The European rerouting of the Bolivian presidential plane over suspicions that National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden was aboard ignited outrage Wednesday among Latin American leaders who called it a stunning violation of national sovereignty and disrespect for the region.

Yesterday, and it seems to at least be a bfd to many in the diplomatic circles in several S. American countries. The Italian and French ambassadors and Portuguese consul were called on the carpet by the Bolivian government to explain their government's action.

The description above that nice lies are told to which others pretend belief is possibly true. But these countries were PO'd at the EU countries, and the implied behind the scenes coercion of the US govt.

        We'll see.

That there were demonstrators and rocks piled in front of the French embassy in La Paz.  People are upset.
