often goes untreated for years in abuse and rape survivors. I hope you've gotten all the help and support you needed and still need.
    BTW, I still shake sometimes, too...it's been 29 years. I don't think there's a "magic number".

..that long ago, as you are well aware, we were mostly told to buck up and get on with it - or made to feel it was our fault. And I was more focused on getting the children the help they needed.  And I had no money or health insurance that covered therapy (gee, that's a surprise. Not!).

Usually I am okay. But watching that PSA, I knew exactly what would have been going through my head as I did what she did - from taking off the make-up to the first hit, I KNEW. And, frankly, I don't want to know. I want it to go away.

I've had a good life since I got out, and he is dead now, so I've won. I can say that.

Thank you for your response. I hope that you, too, have gotten the help and support you needed.

but I'm still shocked at what can bring it back...a scene in a movie or play, a tone of voice in a crowd, the posture of a stranger. I got out, I got help, I got support, and I have a great life...and I still cringe inside sometimes. But I've moved from hating that part of me to using that surge of adrenaline...I'm active politically and socially in trying to change the culture so my daughters' will be safer and stronger.
Be well, be strong, be safe, and be yourself!
