have to get up at six-thirty and see if Dad's been fed and medicated.

The "caregiver" fell down on getting Dad's usual breakfast in the house for this morning, so he had to fall back on me making him a ham and cheese omelet with toast and black raspberry jelly. (I would call that an upgrade from frozen sausage biscuits, personally.)

Proving once again that I can make an omelet while half asleep.

There is nectar cooling for Dad's hummingbird feeder, and I'll fill that and put that back out in a few minutes, plus start emptying the ice trays into the bin and cleaning up from omelet preparations.

The caretaker wandered out, got told I fed Dad, and went back to bed. You just do that, buddy.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.

That's this summer's cooking lesson I've mastered, to the delight of my husband and father-in-law.
