  •  my South African friend took me to a cricket match (0+ / 0-)

I had utterly no idea at all what was going on, and he was patiently trying to explain everything to me, but we both had a good time.

If he ever makes it to the US I'll take him to see the Rays play and explain American baseball to him.

In all the countries I have been to (with the exception of Costa Rica), American sports were virtually unknown (baseball is popular in Costa Rica).  It was odd in a way, since the rest of American culture---music, movies, TV, clothing--could be seen everywhere from Johannesburg to Oslo.

    •  Its not that hard to understand Cricket... (0+ / 0-)

It depends what kind of Cricket match your friend in SA took you to....was it a Test, One day (50-50) or a 20-20 (the most exciting version...akin to baseball). Yeah i dont understand a lot of the rules either, but i know the basics enough to understand and appreciate the game. Fielding positions though, ill never figure those out lol!
