the irony. Or finding it amusing.

Based on comments in other diaries over the last week, many here don't get the obsessive focus on Snowdon - he often overshadows the issue he exposed. Yesterday's bunfight re the Nashville diary was interesting - less for the pro and con than for the fact that it generated such aggressive intensity.

I don't mean to offend anyone but I do find it funny, in a gallows humor kind of way. My rights over my body are being taken away from me, the unemployed in my State have been thrown into the cruelest situation imaginable and I feel desperate over the seemingly unstoppable tide of neo Jim Crowism. I'm going to get my amusement wherever I can.

To be fair, my little snapshot is not really representative of Daily Kos; it was a moment of opportunity. Like one of those internet irony pics people trade around, where just the right conditions are met that an amusing - if possibly misleading - result comes of it.

Of course, there's also a bit of truth in here, given that the three Snowden diaries generated between them 2,000 comments and over 1,000 recs. That's a lot of attention being paid to something ultimately not very important.

And I should know; I'm guilty, too.

And it is noticeable enough that several people have posted diaries and comments about it.

A lot of us are scared and frustrated by what is happening in this country. Projecting onto Snowden makes sense in this context.

Personally, I like gallows humor. It has gotten me through a lot of rough times. Some here, however, seem to view it as a crime.

From the gallows perspective, I find the 'what are you going to do about' comments on this thread amusing. If that is the metric for posting a diary then we should never see anything about Snowden because, quite frankly, there ain't sh*t any of us can do to help him.

Given that I wrote this, I can hardly be considered objective :)

I'm definitely with you on the gallows humor. Boy oh boy, how laughing has saved me. I've gallows-humored myself right into doing humor for a living.

It is, I think, a bittersweet thing. While I appreciate and admire people who "get" that kind of funny, it comes from a place of pain, and pain is no fun. Here's hoping the rough times ahead are not as rough as we fear...
