Mother Jones is based in San Francisco.  Utne Reader is based in Topeka, (freaking) Kansas.  The Progressive is based in Madison, Wisconsin.  The Nation is in DC.

National Review is based in New York.  The American Conservative is based in DC.

Many people here on Daily Kos extol the beauty and advantages of their Red cities, counties, regions and states along with dismay at their governance.  You would think that conservatives would flock to such paradises, yet they are generally happy to remain in the I-95 corridor.  Rush himself would be an exception, but he chose Florida's blue Southeast rather than its red Southwest for his mansion.  Only Sarah Palin shows consistency in this, choosing Scottsdale, Arizona for her domicile.

If the Right is so in love with "The Heartland" or "Real America", then let them come over here.  We have electricity, sewer systems in most of our cities and suburbs, potable running water (hot and cold, even!) and very few of us make our livings by kidnapping rich folks and holding them hostage.  There's even this invention called "air conditioning";  yellow fever, dysentery, hookworm and malaria are merely bad memories and dengue is really, really rare. English is widely spoken as a first language.  People of their color and wealth generally enjoy police protection, can certainly afford to have the fire department come out and can hire all manner of domestic staff at low, ahem, competitive wages.  Our legislatures' attempts to join the Third World or the ranks of the theocracies are precisely those which conservatives applaud.

So maybe Limbaugh does hold the (white) denizens of his native Cape Girardeau, MO as ignorant, filthy, trashy rednecks.  He certainly chooses to be a barely-tolerated neighbor on Florida's east coast over being a beloved hometown icon in his native city.
