  •  You're not alone in being bothered by fireworks. (4+ / 0-)

I've loved 'em since I was a kid, but recently had a different perspective pointed out to me.

Not only do most animals not respond well to the noise of the things, but there are so very many military members who are sufferening the tortures of the damned with PTSD.

Any sudden, loud noise can be a trigger for them.  I can only imagine what fireworks must be like.

It's one thing to get away from the planned shows that some towns and cities put on.  Getting away from the things that private citizens get up to is a far different thing.

Like so many things, my pleasure in fireworks is outranked by concern for my fellow citizens.  Isn't that part of what we were supposed to be celebrating, after all?

We cannot call ourselves a civilised society if we refuse to protect the weakest among us.
