    to keep the peace between partisans (btw, is there no nonmilitary police force?), without going so far as to overthrow the democratically elected government.

    Let's say in the next election, MB is defeated, then millions of MB supporters take to the streets?  Does the military do yet another coup?  According to the reasoning in your comment, the answer would be "yes".  

    Sooner or later there must be a time when the losers of an election accept the outcome and resolve to do better in the next election rather than get the military to undo the election they lost.

      Yes, there is no non military police force with talking about.

      Small local police, maybe. Nothing like our state or big city cops, nothing with that level of equipment and manpower.

      Besides, if 1/4 of the population of the us was protesting, I think you can be sure the military would be called out.
