    ... that a significant plurality, if not a majority, of the millions in the streets were there out of "bread and butter" motivations, not high-minded aspirations of democratic government, no matter how many intellectuals were leading the protests. Ironically, it was the Muslim Brotherhood's political and practical success at addressing these basic needs of the population that helped propel Morsi to power in the last election in the first place.

    If a more balanced coalition government can be formed, the first order of business is going to be putting people to work somehow, and avoiding austerity politics at all costs - if their western creditors will let them.
