    you speak from an understanding of the policy.

    My point (among others) is that the policy is not understood and so the stigma exists.

    I know the stigma exists because I have personally experienced it in spite of going out of my way not to benefit from affirmative action.  It's not rational for the reasons you give, but it becomes rational sometimes in how the policy plays out in the real world.

    But I don't say it's rational.  I say it's there.
