Could we also discuss the Social Security Fairness Act, HR 1795. This bill seeks to repeal the Government pension offset and windfall elimination provisions. These offsets are discrimination against federal workers, teachers, firefighters, police, etc. Many people, myself included, worked for years paying into Social Security, and then changed to another career working for the government (or visa versa). I paid into SS for 32 years, but because I am now a teacher, I will not receive all of the benefits that I have earned. Nor am I eligible to receive a spouses benefits. Besides being just plain mean, this is discrimination, and needs fixed.

Oh and when I took the job as a teacher, no one bothered to tell me this, including the people at the Social Security office. (They actually told me I was fully vested, and would receive the benefits that I have earned, which sounds logical but is so wrong.) It was only after I started to research my retirement that I discovered this lovely information.
