  •  Reminds me of a story a former law partner told (4+ / 0-)

He was head of the Baltimore County Board of Education at the time, and they were having public hearings on the board's plans to institute sex education.  The John Birchers (who were a lot more prominent among right-wing lunatics back then) were strenuously objecting on the grounds that sex education was all a communist plot to get American youth thinking about sex, rather than about studying science and math to stay ahead of the Russians in the space and nuclear arms races.

My former partner pointed out the rather obvious fact that teenagers are going to think about sex, whether or not you teach them how to avoid getting pregnant.  When one of the Birchers disagreed with that, my former partner simply asked, incredulously, "Were you ever a teenager?"

I could add the question:  Who teaches sex education to young dogs, young cattle, young birds, young squirrels, and the young of just about every other species?  Because they all get very interested in sex just about the time they hit puberty.

While I always thought this story might have been apocryphal, I have since met someone who was assistant superintendent of schools at the time who assures me that it actually happened.

Bin Laden is dead. GM and Chrysler are alive.
