Just outside of Las Vegas.  I spent many days there hiking when my son was very small - both winter and summer.  Las Vegas Sun reporting 9,000 acres involved, including Lee & Kyle Canyons.

Mt. Charleston is home to some of the country's oldest trees - Bristlecone Pines, 18,000 acres of ancient trees, including one believed to be over 3,000 years old.  Only known one that's older is in California.

It's a beautiful place - we used to go up there in the late 70's / early 80's, before it was designated an official wilderness area.
