    (and I also believe this is often the case) then why do we spend so much time and effort debating the actions and personalities of the elected government?

    I think in many cases the people we elect are incidental to the interests that finance and influence them. Sometimes even dictate to them.

    We elect a Feinstein and expect her not to advocate for a stronger MIC? We elect an Obama and expect him not to give bankers a free ride?

    In American politics you get what you pay for, and if you ain't got the do-re-mi boys, you ain't getting much in return.
