    to the myth that insurance companies are the evil plague on our wonderful system.

    You need to learn a lot. Doctors and hospitals (and all the other parts and suppliers of the systems) are profit making entities and are too often putting their economic interest ahead of your interest in getting or staying well.

    Just one example was brought to light on a 60 Minute segment recently. The Cost of Admission was about a hospital chain setting quotas for its ER doctors to admit some 20% (50% with Medicare) patients to the hospital whether they needed any treatment there or not. Doctors who missed quotas would be fired.

    There are many more abuses like that. "This allows the healthcare providers to make decisions that are right for the patient," is unfortunately often the dead wrong way to do things. It can lead to you being dead.

    Far more people die each year from preventable medical errors in care than die from lack of care.
