    be protected by both surface and intermediate casing cementing operations, but it is not vulnerable to
    intrusion if those casings are properly cemented as the ultimate discharge point for injection will be many more thousands of feet below ground below millions of tons of impervious rock.

    However, you are very correct to point out that karst topography poses some substantial difficulties that must be addressed and overcome in the design of hydrocarbon wells and their finishing.

    Wells are cemented by pumping cement in from the bottom up.   If there are voids encountered, or if there is a pressurized artesian aquifer, that must be addressed during installation and completion of the casings.
