  •  ...there are two ways a person can be... (8+ / 0-)

...either working towards inclusion and community, OR working towards the gain of a few.

You can say one is evil...but that's all in the eye of the beholder. Cheney, I'm sure, would say those that are working towards inclusion and community are evil.

I would say what Cheney did and does is evil. The Iraq war was his baby so he and a few others could make a mint. It didn't matter to him one bit that it became a quagmire and cost so much money and so many lives. The worse the mess, the longer he could make a mint.

Those that work towards the gain of a few are evil in my book because the only way to do that is to hurt the many and take from the many.

So there you have it. Do you work towards the benefit of the many...or do you work towards the benefit of only a few? One way is compassionate...the other is pure selfish. Compassionate people like others...selfish people do not. They don't care a bit about others...

      But not this:
Those that work towards the gain of a few are evil in my book.
If we are somehow all connected in our humanity (or as a universal soul), to condemn a person as evil seems to deny that connection. Or to condemn ourselves. An evil person would be irredeemable. I don't think that's true. But maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

      •  ...you either include or exclude... (5+ / 0-)

...you either help others or help yourself.

It's my personal belief that helping yourself byway of excluding other is evil.

Too bad the American public has been duped into believing just the opposite...they've bought that crap...trickle down economics...even after 33 years of it...they still believe the meme that selfishness WILL be the most beneficial for everyone...even though EXACTLY the opposite has occurred and continues to occur.

See how the selfish are? Evil. They will brainwash you into buying into the "big lie." Evil because it is all a manipulation by the few (1%) for the few...

        •  But in their minds (4+ / 0-)

          aren't their intentions "good"?

I agree with your assessment that a lack of consideration of others is an evil act (or an evil omission), but does that make the human being who makes that error evil?

          •  ...in there minds their intentions are good... (4+ / 0-)

...because they simultaneously exclude tons of others. That's why they constantly want to end a women's choice, end social security and medicare and medicaid...exclude people of color from voting...make it so there are very few polling places in Democratic counties compared to Republican counties.

There intentions are "good" if "good" means getting and keeping all the pie while purposefully choosing to create policies that really screw "others not like them."

So let's bring back segregation...that would be "good" in their book. Let's bring back rich and poor with nothing in between...that's "good" in their book.

Evil is just a descriptive word. There really isn't anything that is good or bad. One person's good is another person's bad.

But I will use the term "evil" to describe the uber selfish because that harms the world and the majority of people...
