  •  Yes. Smart, learned people are always useful, (18+ / 0-)

and therefore dangerous to the likes of Scottie Walker, Rick Perry, etc.  I was reading in one of my old Reformation history textbooks today (It was raining....like all day.  Normally I'm out having as much fun as the people you see in a beer commercial, OK.....), and ran across a letter written to Martin Luther by an early supporter, Wolfgang Capito.  The advice was that Luther not get super detailed and scholarly in publically refuting specific issues of ecclesiastical malfeasance, but to use derision and ridicule.  I thought that 500 year-old advice could be pretty appropriate for progressives today.  Use the tools and tactics that really work, and that people really understand.  I seem to remember that everyone got the point when Obama said, "Please proceed, Governor.", and his take down of Donald Trump at The White House Correspondents dinner a few years ago was like a dagger to the heart. When are we going to get progressive leaders consistently smart enough to not get their (and our) butts kicked by people stuck in a secessionist mindset of 150 years ago?

you aren't smart enough.  Thumping one's chest isn't always an advantage.  I prefer those that know how to use game theory and negotiation strategies tuned to the situations they find themselves in.
