Postal Service to be reduced to nothing more than a "last mile" delivery service.  Private delivery services do not currently extend into rural areas (or even some suburban areas) if the cost or time involved in making deliveries is not advantageous to them.  Much of the time private delivery services hand off their packages bound for areas inconvenient and expensive for them to service but the postal service is bound by law to serve.

I still think the postal service should host postal banking.  Doing so would strengthen the USPS bottom line and make banking available and convenient for the millions of Americans who do not have or can not afford access to private banks.  From an report on the idea and discussions held at the July, 2012 national convention of the National Association of Letter Carriers:

Public postal banks can be profitable because their market is large and their costs are low: the infrastructure is already built and available, advertising costs are minimal, and government-owned banks do not award their management extravagant bonuses or commissions that drain profits away.  Profits return to the government and the people.
