  •  The thing about abuse is that it is impossible (5+ / 0-)

for the victim to defend against. Abuse that's delivered by the equivalent of Mafia goons is even worse.
There has to be an intervention.
I'm not sure Obama understands the legislature and the judicial branch have been hijacked by crooks. Nor does he seem to understand that the crooks are in both parties.

    •  That is largely my assessment (4+ / 0-)

I cannot account for how he has wasted 5 years trying to be all bipartisany with the frggin Klan, for all practical purposes.

I would love to see him go on some tear and just piss them off to the point of traumatizing them.

he's totally free to do so since they go apoplectic if he even makes a sandwich.

It is at that point one wonders if he's not gotten rather comfy with "the system".

abuse, convinced that if they just don't irritate their tormentors, they'll be spared. It is a logical argument in that it enables the victim to retain some self-respect. Imagining that one is in control is better than giving in to total domination.

him/herself. Abuse aims to injure not kill. So, since resistance risks additional injury, the victim becomes complicit, a tool, in his own abuse.
There has to be an intervention and we have to take abuse more seriously, as a harbinger, if you will, of death and destruction. A one-off impulsive killing is virtually impossible to prevent, but habitual malefactors likely graduate from abuse and less than lethal assault to the ultimate deprivation of rights. Abuse is a gateway crime. Also, it's like a virus because, if the victim can't retaliate against the abuser, he's likely to take it out on someone else.
We might hope that people won't do to others what was done to them, but that's a vain hope. Israel's treatment of the Palestinians is not anomalous. Victims also develop the attitude that "if I could take it, so can you" and "what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger."
