    Just thinking of this today.  Perry mason was a good guy who defended the wrongfully accused.  It showed that people of good character can oppose the DA and the police, without malice, without being on the side of the criminals.  It showed that the police were often wrong, even if they were not bad cops, just mistaken.  There is room for reasonable doubt.  There is a need for questioning to make sure the "good guys" are being careful.

    I don't watch much network TV these days, but I do not think we have a similar protagonist these days.  It seems to me that all the cops, DA's, CSI's, NCIS'S, etc., are all shown as infallible - so just cooperate and don't question their methods.
