    But in the co-called real world - One man's conspiracy is another man's strategy.

    ALEC is just taking the strategy that has worked fairly well at the national level and deploying it at the state level, where the legislators are often less sophisticated and ready to use the sample bill language, and the appeal to the red-meat parochial interests is more straightforward.

    Whatever you choose to call it, it is emblematic of a larger ethical race-to-the-bottom which has become so commonplace.

    Wedge issues are focus-grouped, legally packaged and marketed in pre-fabricated programs for these state legislatures, complete with sneaky, stealth tactics for getting them through. All thanks to huge machines funded by a few billionaires.

    It turns the philosophy of local government on its head. It's socially divisive, it's predatory, and it's fundamentally dishonest. The Republicans lead the way and the Democrats...(sigh)... they've often been gerrymandered to obscurity... some go along and get along.  Very discouraging..
