  •  Getting out can often be a bad move. (21+ / 0-)

    Please be careful with that.  Preferred, at least in my case, was that they stay in the vehicle, hands on top of the steering wheel.

    Me looking over your shoulder, seeing your hands in the clear, puts me in a safe place.  You outside the car leaves a lot more actions open to happening in a fraction of a second. You behind a closed car door limits the quickness of what you can do to me.

    Of course, I left that type of work years ago.

      (when that is not demanded) is considered a threat to the police officer and prevents him/her from ascertaining at a glance whether or not you were using your seat belt when stopped. They can - and will - ticket you for that, if they don't shoot you for getting out of the car first.
