  •  An aggressive campaign could take some districts (2+ / 0-)

In many of these gerrymandered districts, a concerted, aggressive GOTV campaign might stand a chance at breaking the stranglehold shenanigans. The margins aren't that big, it's just that minority party voters in locked-down districts (and states) don't vote. Which, of course, helps them stay locked down.

    How do you break that?

For starters, pull off the kid gloves that say you don't talk smack about the system. Explicitly run on the gerrymander as an issue.  Here's your ad plan, which works as both a TV spot and a direct mailer.  Show what a crazy gerrymandered district outline you have.

This doesn't look fair, does it? It's not. Republicans did this because they don't want your vote to matter. And they think they can get away with it because you'll just stay home. On [Date], let's prove them wrong together. Be a voter. Support [candidate]. Close with a locality-appropriate slogan, if available; if you're doing this in a TX campaign, might I suggest: Help take Texas back for Texans.

Wave elections clear out all kinds of deadwood, but a concerted local effort with a strong candidate and a good campaign can win against rough odds regardless.
