then I suppose you wouldn't think its diplomatic efforts are worth much. But when I look at those cables I mostly see a bunch of frontline working stiffs analyzing media reports, relaying communications from world leaders, and, yes, trying to conduct peace—jobs that Bradley Manning and Julian Assange have now made immeasurably more difficult.

Arab spring thing needs to be shut down and the dictators put back in place.  It is possible that what Manning did will be more important than anything else.this century.  Terrorism is now not seen as a viable alternative in the middle east, while democratic uprisings over those cables.are not only possible, but inevitable.

Obama is on the wrong side.of history here.  And if he doesn't change course there will be mass.unrest here as well.  This genie isn't going back in the bottle.

Bad things aren't bad! And anyway, there's mitigation!

The collateral murder video was arguably the most influential leak by Manning. It depicted a heinous act by the US military that has gone unpunished, and is undoubtedly the tip of the iceberg in terms of undocumented and unaccounted war crimes committed in Iraq. From Fallujah to Abu Ghraib to rendition and torture, our actions in just that one country have probably permanently damaged the US image globally.

Those State cables mostly revealed efforts at damage control from the fallout and further attempts to manipulate circumstances in our favor. Revealing that was just embarrassing, especially to our politicians, who always say one thing and do another.
