So if I'm following your logic...

    1.  They knew there would be no new preclearance standard under this Congress, or else it would be one so corrupt as to win the approval of a GOP Congress.

    2.  They knew that in lieu of a new standard, state governments under Republican control would act to institute de facto Jim Crow voting laws.

    3.  They knew that this would benefit Republicans by compromising the effectiveness of minority voters.

    4.  And they heard the case a mere two days after Barack Obama won reelection precisely because of the demographics who would be attacked by the decision.

    But...

    5.  They didn't reinstitute segregation.

Yeeeeah.  No one could possibly think you're rationalizing.

    •  I'm not saying it was a good decision (0+ / 0-)

It's just not the apocalyptic scenario you're acting like it is. Like I said, voter suppression laws have been "a thing" for a while now. It's not like everyone's right to vote was protected and now suddenly it is all called into question. A better thing to channel your energy into would be campaigns against voter suppression everywhere, not just a handful of states in the Deep South.
