    It is out for an extended period due to runway repairs, since June 1, with plenty of notice to pilots and airlines, and even in normal operations is often not used in clear weather.

    They were operating under visual flight rules, which they acknowledged to the control tower as they began the descent. That is an entirely normal occurrence, not some sort of unexpected flukey problem.  

    The winds were light with (according to the NTSB head) no indications anywhere of gusts or wind shear.

    The network talkies have to fill space with speculation and jabber. As the NTSB head said (and Capt. Sullenberg reiterated this morning), the investigation will take a long time because they want it to be thorough and based on facts.
